DELAWARE and WESTERVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's track & field team competed across two events this weekend. On Friday the Battling Bishops hosted the annual OWU Open, and would then hit the road on Saturday for the All-Ohio Championship which was hosted by Otterbein.
AT ALL-OHIO CHAMPIONSHIP
The Red and Black finished first in the 16-team field with 150.5 points, a remarkable 65.5 points more than second place.
Zora Starner,
Mia Staab,
Scarlett Loevenguth, and
Elsa Hoam took third in the distance medley relay, after finishing with a time of 13:04.00. The squad earned six points.
Three Bishops placed within the top five in the 5000 meter run. Freshman
Hope Morris led the way, finishing second with a time of 18:55.44 and securing eight points.
Laura Wagner was close behind, crossing the line with a 18:57.96, good for third place and six points.
Lucy Johnson rounded out the top five with a 19:19.52, earning four points.
In the 60 meter hurdles,
Katherine Dortmund dominated the field to secure first place. Her time of 8.76 earned 10 points toward the team total.
The duo of
Alaina Nathan and Dortmund took the top two spots in the 60 meter dash. Nathan crossed with a 7.78, good for first place and 10 points. Dortmund finished with a 7.80 to secure second place and eight points.
Aelyn Baumbarger earned four points for the Bishops in the event, after finishing fifth with a 7.98.
In the 4x200 meter relay, a group of Baumbarger,
Kennedy Elfers,
Kaylee Lusk, and
Alaina Nathan finished first with a time of 1:45.16, giving the Bishops 10 points.
Allison Dietz secured 10 points and the top spot in the one mile run, after crossing with a time of 5:16.68.
Elfers took fourth in the 400 meter dash, finishing with a 1:00.74 and nabbing five points.
In the 800 meter run,
Brianna Montgomery secured second place and eight points after finishing with a time of 2:19.81.
McKenna Downing finished fifth with a 2:23.53, earning four points.
In the 200 meter dash, Elfers shined once again, this time taking fourth after crossing with a 26.05 for five points. Dortmund followed it up with a 26.37, good for fifth place and four points. Baumbarger capped off the scoring for the Bishops, clocking a 26.59 to secure sixth place and add three points.
Four Bishops placed in the 3000 meter run.
Zoe Ward finished with a 10:22.80, placing second and recording eight points.
Sophie Cotts took fourth after clocking a 10:32.33, giving the squad five points. Dietz was next, finishing fifth with a 10:40.73 and earning four points.
Ella Chomic rounded out the scoring with a 10:41.54, good for sixth place and three points.
A quartet of Layla Bauknecht, Elfers, Lusk, and Montgomery secured second place in the 4x400 meter relay after finishing with a time of 4:04.09. The group earned eight points for the Bishops.
In the long jump,
Audrey Spooner nabbed seventh and two points after jumping 4.76 meters.
Kali Kohler finished eighth with a jump of 4.68 meters, earning one point.
Niyah Shipman tied for fifth in the high jump, after leaping 1.53 meters to earn 3.5 points.
In the triple jump,
Audrey Spooner earned six more points after jumping 10.20 meters, good for third place,
Finally,
Addie Beck secured fourth place in the pole vault after vaulting 3.47 meters. Beck earned five points.
OWU OPEN
In the 60 meter hurdles,
Kateri Hoy finished with a time of 9.85, good for second place.
It was a dominant display in the 800 meter run as
Zora Starner,
Reghan Gist,
Abrianna Hite, and
Alyssa Henry claimed four of the top five spots. Starner set the tone, crossing the line in 2:29.32 to secure the win, followed closely by Gist, whose 2:30.12 earned her third. Hite (2:33.16) and Henry (2:33.29) rounded out the stellar performance, finishing back-to-back in fourth and fifth.
Freshman
Claire Campbell took the top spot in the long jump after leaping 4.70 meters.
Campbell continued her impressive day with another first-place finish in the triple jump after jumping 9.68 meters.
In the weight throw, seniors
Emily Davis and
Emma Hall took second and third, respectively. Davis finished with a toss of 13.44 meters, while Hall threw 13.11 meters.
Layla Bauknecht nabbed second in the high jump with a jump of 1.53 meters.

The Battling Bishops are back in action on Friday for the OWU Tune-Up in preparation for the NCAC Combined Event Championship.
