UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University wrestling team competed at the NCAA Region V Championship on Friday and Saturday, hosted by John Carroll. The Battling Bishops finished 17th to close out the season.
Skyler Cornell (1-2) recorded the lone win for OWU in the 165 bracket, taking his first match 10-4 on decision. He would be knocked out of the championship bracket by tech fall in his second match 17-2 after 3:54. Cornell's run ended in the consolation bracket with a fall after 1:12 in his first match.
Anthony Rocco (0-2) represented Ohio Wesleyan in the 125 bracket. He was knocked out of the championship bracket by tech fall in his first match, 15-0. Rocco's consolation run came to an end in his first match with a 15-3 major decision.
Matthew Plum (0-2) was OWU's pick for the 141 bracket. He fell in his first championship match after 2:34, followed by another fall in his first consolation match after 2:52.
Gabe Bulugaris (0-2) competed for the Bishops in the 149 bracket. He suffered a 20-0 tech fall in his first championship match after 5:44. This was followed by another 18-3 tech fall in his first consolation match after 6:44.
Cris Hernandez (0-2) represented the Red and Black in the 157 bracket, suffering back-to-back falls – first after 4:01 and then after 3:39.
Alvin Osadebe (0-2) competed for the Battling Bishops in the 184 bracket. He would fall after 1:21 in his first championship match before another fall in his first consolation match after 2:45.
Tyler Lorenzen (0-2) represented Ohio Wesleyan in the 285 bracket. His championship run ended in his first match with a fall after 1:25. This was followed by a fall after 1:41 in his first consolation match.
