GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University men's golf team competed at the Denison Spring Shootout on Sunday, playing two rounds at the 6559-yard, par 71 Denison Golf Club. The Battling Bishops started with a 304 in round one, claiming sole possession of fourth place. The Bishops dropped three strokes in the second round to a team total of 301, securing their fourth place spot in a tie with Denison and Wittenberg at 605 total strokes. Otterbein won the event with a score of 579.
All four scorers for the Red and Black were below 80 in the first round.
Gavin Stutz was the team-leader at 74, followed closely by
Nate Tripp at 76.
Ryan Ashby and
Callahan Lawler both finished the first 18 holes at 77.
Jacob Spann dropped off the team scorecard with the highest score of 81.
Tripp and Stutz traded places in round two, with Tripp shooting two less for a 72 while Stutz shot a 74. This left the duo tied for ninth overall with a 36-hole score of 148. Spann dropped six strokes in the second round to a 75, ending with a 156 and finishing tied for 34th. Ashby booked the final spot on the team card at an even 80, finishing tied for 39th with a 156. Lawler recorded an 82 in round two, finishing tied for 47th with a 159.
Joey Christy and
Hunter Haynes both played as individuals, shooting 80 and 89 respectively for round one. The pair shot 84 and 85 in round two, finishing tied for 62nd and 84th with scores of 164 and 174.
