GAMBIER, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University women's track & field team competed at the NCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, hosted by Kenyon. The Battling Bishops tallied 149.5 points on their way to a third place finish in the eight-team field. John Carroll won the event with 190 points, followed by DePauw with 156.5 points. A total of 12 Bishops earned All-NCAC honors with top-three finishes in their respective events.
One of the highlights of the weekend was yet another new program record set by sophomore
Katherine Dortmund in the 100-meter hurdles. She ran a time of 13.77 – not only breaking the OWU record, but the previous NCAC record – ultimately finishing second.
HEPTATHLON
Kateri Hoy and
Kali Kohler started off OWU's efforts for the NCAC Championship with nine team points at the NCAC Combined-Events Championship last weekend in Granville, finishing fourth and fifth in the 10-athlete field.
Hoy finished fourth in the event with 3502 total points. Her best event was the 200-meter where she finished top of the field with a 27.01, earning 711 points. She came second in the 800-meter with a 2:35.89, earning 621 points. Hoy had a fourth place finish in the 100-meter hurdles at 16.01, earning 713 points. She was sixth in both the high jump and javelin with marks of 1.36 meters and 19.78 meters, combining for 755 points. Finally, she was seventh in the long jump at 4.24 meters and ninth in the shot put at 7.05 meters, adding 702 points.
Kohler finished fifth in the event with 3183 total points. Her best event was the javelin where she was fourth overall and earned 455 points with a mark of 28.87 meters. She was fifth in the long jump with a mark of 4.44 meters, earning 413 points. Kohler also placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles, the 200-meter, and the high jump, turning in times of 17.61 and 28.63 and a mark of 1.36 for a total of 1550 points. She placed ninth and 10th in the 800-meter and the shot put with a time of 2:52.59 and a mark of 6.89 meters, adding 765 points.
TRACK EVENTS
The highlight of the weekend on the track was a new program record for
Katherine Dortmund in the 100-meter hurdles – an event that earned the Red and Black 11 points. Dortmund ended in second place overall, breaking not only the Ohio Wesleyan record, but the NCAC record as well with a 13.77. Layla Bauknecht turned in a 15.42 for sixth.
OWU's best track event of the day was a split between the 100-meter dash and the 5000-meter run, with the Bishops putting up 13 points in both.
Alaina Nathan and Dortmund took third and fourth with times of 12.27 and 12.32 in the 100-meter dash, with Nathan nabbing All-NCAC honors.
Sophie Cotts and
Ella Chomic took second and fourth in the 5000-meter run, with Cotts earning All-NCAC honors at 17:22.12 and Chomic managing a 17:35.50.
Dortmund and
Kennedy Elfers secured 10 points in the 200-meter dash. Dortmund was third, earning All-NCAC honors with a time of 25.29. Elfers finished with a 26.00 in fifth.
Elsa Hoam and
Reghan Gist tallied eight points in the 3000-meter steeplechase. Hoam held third and All-NCAC honors with a 11:19.07 while Gist turned in a 11:56.04 for seventh.
The Battling Bishops tacked on six points in both the 800-meter run and the 4x100-meter relay.
Brianna Montgomery led the efforts in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:18.02 for fourth, followed by
McKenna Downing in eighth with a time of 2:25.37. The 4x100-meter relay team of
Aelyn Baumbarger, Elfers, Dortmund, and Nathan earned All-NCAC honors in third with a time of 47.66
The Red and Black collected five points in both disciplines of the 400 with Elfers finishing fourth in the 400-meter dash at 58.72, and Bauknecht taking fourth in the 400-meter hurdles at 1:05.98.
Hoam rounded out the scoring on the track with three points in the 1500-meter run, running a 4:47.87 for sixth place.
FIELD EVENTS
Ohio Wesleyan dominated the high jump, putting up 20 points with four placers in the top eight.
Hailey Harris and Audrey spooner led the pack of Bishops in second and third, both earning All-NCAC honors by passing the 1.56-meter mark. The only difference came in the number of attempts to do so, with Harris succeeding on her first try and Spooner on her second. Layla Bauknecht came in fifth with a mark of 1.53 meters, followed by
Amarah McPhaul in seventh with a mark of 1.50 meters.
The discus was OWU's second-highest-scoring field event with
Jera Hoy and
Emily Davis combining for 14 points. Both earned All-NCAC honors in second and third – Hoy with a mark of 38.32 meters and Davis with a mark of 37.26 meters.
The pole vault saw the trio of
Addie Beck,
Stephanie Novak, and
Sarah Youngquist tally 12.5 points. Beck collected All-NCAC honors in second with a mark of 3.38 meters. Novak tied for fifth with a mark of 3.23 meters. Youngquist was seventh with a 3.08 meters.
Hazel Jolliff and
Alexis Eusey secured 10 points for the Battling Bishops in the javelin. Joliff finished with All-NCAC honors in second at 35.02 meters. Eusey was fifth with a toss of 34.33 meters.
Emma Hall and Hoy were seventh and eighth in the hammer throw, earning three points with respective marks of 41.02 meters and 39.53 meters.
Hoy also placed eighth in the shot put, tallying one final point with a mark of 10.95 meters.
