Name:  Cooper Heald

Class year:  2027

Majors: Sociology/anthropology, history

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
I chose OWU because I grew up connected to the university and its community.  When it came down to deciding where I would go to school, Ohio Wesleyan just felt right to me and it feels like home.

Why did you choose your major?
Although not 100 percent set on my major, I decided these because of my interest in these topics and the wide variety of opportunities they offer after my time at Ohio Wesleyan.

Why did you choose to compete in sports at Ohio Wesleyan?
When the opportunity to join the men's lacrosse team became an option for me, it was something that I couldn't pass up.  I have attended OWU lacrosse games for the better part of a decade, and being able to be a part of the team that I grew up watching felt like a no-brainer to me.

Which is your favorite position?
My favorite position to play is attack.  I have always been an offensive-minded player, so attack has just come naturally to me.

What are your strengths as an athlete (as an individual)?
My strengths as an athlete are my understanding and IQ of the game, my creativity, and my strength/physicality.

What event/sport other than your own would you like to try?
If I were to pick a sport other than lacrosse to play it would definitely be golf.

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?  What did you do to put yourself in position to achieve that?
An award that I am most proud of is that during my senior year of high school, I received my school's award for sportsmanship and leadership.  I always try my best to lead by example to all those around me regardless of the situation.  What I always try to do is have a positive attitude no matter the scenario and to always have a growth mindset.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get where you are?
A coach who has helped me get to where I am is my high school lacrosse coach, Anthony Sanfillipo.  He helped me establish a great work ethic and how to become a leader on and off the field.

If you could have a super power, what would it be?
If I were to have a super power it would be super speed.  It would be insanely useful to be able to get to where you need to be in almost no time at all.

What is your favorite place to eat in Delaware, and what is your go-to dish there?
My favorite place to eat in Delaware is Typhoon Asian Fusion Bistro.  My go-to dish there is the Typhoon Monster sushi roll.

What is your favorite movie character and why?
My favorite movie character is Batman.  Who wouldn't want to be a billionaire and a superhero all in one?

What advice would you give to someone considering becoming a student-athlete?
If I were to give advice to someone who is considering being a student-athlete, it would be to always give your best effort in everything you do.  If you do that then the opportunities will be there for you. Another piece of advice that I have is to select the place that you feel the most valued and at home at.

What is your dream job and why?
My dream job would be to be on a creative team for an NFL team.  Visual arts have been a hobby of mine ever since early high school.  To be able to combine that along with sports would be an awesome job.

What is your favorite book and why?
My favorite book is "The Hunger Games" by Suzanne Collins.  I have always loved the series, but the first book just stands above the rest for me because of the story and lessons it teaches.
