Name:  Katherine Dortmund

Class year:  2028

Major:  Computer science

Why did you choose Ohio Wesleyan?
Ohio Wesleyan is the most financially viable option for me due to the scholarship I have earned and my ability to commute from home.  I also prefer the small campus, close-knit community, and small class sizes as opposed to larger schools.

Why did you choose your major?
I have an affinity for computer science, although I'm not sure why, seeing as I hate mathematics.  There is something about it that is a little fun, perhaps because of the logic and problem solving.

What is your favorite memory on an Ohio Wesleyan team?
I had a lot of fun at the 2025 NCAC meet helping my team score points and earning a few accolades for myself.

What are your strengths as an athlete?
I have been told that I am very coachable in the sense that, when I am told what to do, I do my best to make changes and do it.  I am also ambitious and set huge goals in order to push myself to be the best athlete I can be.

Is there a specific coach or teammate who has helped you get where you are?
All of my coaches are great people that contribute to my development.  I can't say that one has more so than another because I appreciate all of them.

What athletic or academic achievement/accomplishment are you most proud of?
I was most proud of being able to run [the] 100-meter hurdles in sub-14.00 seconds.  I'm hoping that this year I will be able to run even lower when the outdoor season gets going.

What did you do to put yourself in position to achieve that?
To do that, I was particular about what I ate (not obsessive, but disciplined), purposeful in the weight room, and focused while I was competing.

What is your ideal travel destination?
I don't really care where I go for traveling, just so long as I am spending time with someone I love.

What is your favorite book and why?
My favorite book is "Hunger" by Knut Hamsun.  Elaborating on why is an arduous task, so I will not do so.  Just know it's my favorite.

What is your theme song and why?
It's hard for me to hone in on one song for myself, but I’ll say "Chokehold" by Sleep Token.  I think the song captures a fascinating mix of passion, desperation, and esotericism that reflects aspects of the person I am.
