DELAWARE, Ohio – The Ohio Wesleyan University wrestling team returned home to Branch Rickey Arena for the first time since February 2024 on Tuesday night, welcoming Bethany to town. The Battling Bishops would go on to dominate their first dual meet of the season, defeating the Bisons 46-6 thanks to six wins by fall.
The Red and Black picked up their first dual win of the year, now 1-0. Bethany breaks even at 3-3.
Anthony Rocco started the night off strong with a quick win in the 133 match, forcing a fall in just 35 seconds to give OWU a 6-0 lead.
Matthew Plum and
Gabe Bulugaris would follow suit with wins in the 141 and 149 matches, Plum forcing a fall in 4:36 and Bulugaris forcing a fall in 6:41 to bring the lead to 18-0.
Ohio Wesleyan's lead would increase to 24-0 after
Glen Simley won his 157 match by forfeit.
Cris Hernandez then made it 30-0 with another win by fall at 1:53 in the 165 match.
Magnus Lloyd won perhaps the most exciting match of the night, taking the 174 weight class by a 16-4 major decision after battling back-and-forth for the full seven minutes.
Andrew Mushkin and
Chuck Thomas then followed with wins in both the 184 and 197 matches with falls in 6:02 and 2:12.
The only blemish on the scorecard for the night came in the heavyweight match where
Tyler Lorenzen unfortunately fell at the 3:29 mark.
