John Vossers '52 was an All-Ohio football center and placekicker.  As a senior, he was a second-team All-Ohio and first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference selection.  The team switched from the single wing to the T-formation that season, and after a loss to Bowling Green in the season opener, the Bishops were unstoppable, winning 8 straight games to take the OAC title.  He kicked a game-winning field goal with :20 to play to give the Bishops a 17-14 win over Case that season.  He hit 23 of 29 extra point attempts, setting a school record in the former and tying his own mark in the latter.  As a junior, he did the majority of the kicking during the second half of the season, including an extra point with less than 3 minutes to play that gave OWU a 7-7 tie with Wittenberg.  The Bishops went 5-3-1 that season.  As a sophomore, he intercepted 1 pass for 45 yards and scored 24 points.  He set Ohio Wesleyan records with 7 extra point attempts against Wittenberg and Muskingum that season.  The Bishops went 7-2.  His career totals of 50 extra points and 67 extra point attempts set OWU records that lasted until 1972.
